Um die King-Janes-Bible durchzusetzen, verbot König Jakob I. (King James) den Druck der Geneva Bible in England. Zum letzten Mal wurde 1616 in London eine Geneva Bible gedruckt. 1630 wurde durch den Erzbischof der Import dieser Bibel aus Amsterdam verboten. Drucker in Amsterdam erkannten die hohe Nachfrage und druckten in Amsterdam nun die Geneva Bible aber mit einem „Fake-Titelblatt“. Dort ist als Druckort „London“ angegeben mit dem Druckjahr „1599“. So umging man das Verbot und schmuggelte die falsch datierte Bibel nach England und Amerika.

Das Foto oben zeigt eine von den zahlreichen (es waren wohl sieben Ausgaben!) in diesem Jahr erschienenen englischen Bibelausgaben, die schwer einzuordnen sind; hier vorliegend mit den "Apocrypha" (Bll. 128 - 187, recte 197), die nur wenigen Exemplaren beigebunden wurden und wohl für den englischen Gebrauch in den Niederlanden gedruckt wurde. "There are many editions bearing this date, which while agreeing closely are yet distinct ... the phenomena of the various editions described under the year 1599, and the very similar edition of 1633, constitute one of the most curious problems in the bibliography of the English Bible." 
Manche behaupten, diese Bibel sei in den 1630‘er Jahren gedruckt worden …

„Eventually, in the 1630s, Archbishop Laud banned their importation. Not to be deterred, the Dutch made spuriously dated 1599 title pages to make their Geneva Bibles appear legal.

A contemporary London bookseller, Michael Sparke, notes how much cheaper the imported Geneva Bibles were, and charged the King’s Printer with commercial exploitations of his monopoly. Claims from Laud include that the imported Geneva Bibles were both superior in quality and more affordable, and the ban on importation was necessary in order to protect English printing houses.“
